San Juan Pics!

I am only 2 weeks late, it must be a record or sommething! I set up my own gallery on my own domain, so it took a little longer than I had originally planned.

Here's the link: http://www.spacedillo.com/gallery/main.php

Here is a basic overview of the trip:
Saturday, headed from Tacoma to Anacortes via I-5 through Seattle to catch the ferry at 3:10, we made it. Got to the States Inn B&B and Ranch, unpacked the car, and settled in. The cottage we stayed in was previously the farm office, and it's windows looked out into the pen where the mama sheep and her week-old twin lambs were staying. We made dinner reservations and took off to explore Roche Harbor. Arrived, wandered around, then had one of the best meals ever in McMillan's, overlooking the gorgeous boats & rocky shoreline. We crashed early that night, and got up to fresh lavender & apricot scones, fresh-ground coffee, orange-tangerine juice, homemade granola, and a sunny day. We all ate, got ready, then went & visited the Alpaca farm down the road. The place was beautiful, with white fences and house with blue trim, and acres upon acres of fields, most with alpacas in 'em. We browsed their overpriced shop, then headed back to Roche Harbor, cuz Mom & I had made reservations on an orca-watching boat.

The trip was amazing. The boat captain & the naturalist on board said they had never seen quite the show we got. Two orca pods, the K pod and the L pod got together to feed and mate. We had orcas in all directions, we saw 4 & 5 at a time, and then these 2 broke off from the pack. A female from K and a male from L decided it was time to have somme fun. Our naturalist, Brianna, lowered a hydrophone (underwater microphone) into the water, and we listened and watched as these two went at it, splashing, whistling, moaning, rolling, circling, it was absolutely awesome! On the trip back to the harbor, Brianna looked up the orcas in their ID book, matching the white patterns on their backs to photos, and turns out that the female from K was in her sixties, and the male from L was 18. Orcas have similar body cycles to humans, and this lady was well past menopause. They were in it strictly for the fun!

We got in at Roche Harbor, waited for Diane & Meme to come get us, then went to dinner. This time, we went to a restaurant in friday harbor, the other side of the island, a whole 8 miles away. Dinner was great, and we all went back to the Inn & crashed. Next day, we got packed up, loaded the car, and drove alonng the coast, gawking at the forests & houses. We wound our way around to the Pelindaba Lavender Farms, then went to Friday Harbor to catch the ferry home. Well, one of the ferries was out of service, so we explored friday harbor. Overall, a really gorgeous place, and a thoroughly enjoyable trip. I will be going back there in the RV to kayak & hike at some point.

Feel free to ask questions, I'll fill ya in on anything I failed to record here.
